Interview With Photographer Matthias Weinberger
Matthias Weinberger who made photoshoot for the 3D location of Bamberg Cathedral responded to questions of Vizerra team.
Please tell us about yourself. Where do you currently live and work?
I live and work in Bamberg, Germany.
How did you get into photography?
By accident. I borrowed my brother’s camera and simply started taking pictures. After a while I saw how satisfying photography was and started to do more and more.
Had you heard about Vizerra before you started to work with us? How did Vizerra contact you?
Vizerra was not known to me before. You found a picture of Bamberg on my website and contacted me by e-mail.
So how was it like to work with Bamberg Cathedral?
Cold. Very cold and windy. I took the photos during the most severe winter in Bamberg in 15 years. There was snow everywhere which is extremely rare here. That made it a real challenge.
How many photos have you done at a photo shoot for Vizerra? Which one is your favorite?
I took about 2000 pictures.
My favorite ones were taken from the roof of one of the buildings showing the huge clocks on the cathedral at eye level.
What kind of equipment and software do you use in your work?
I use a Nikon D300 with a Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 G VR telephoto lens, a Tokina 12-24mm f/4 Wideangle lens and a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D lens.
My digital workflow is done by Capture One 4.
What is your favorite place for taking pictures?
Outdoors.
What is the most spectacular sight you’ve ever seen?
The Museum of Natural History in London. The Architecture is simply unbelievable. Standing in the Main Hall I had to hold back tears - it is that beautiful.
What things inspire you for your work?
A lot. A song, a book I read, an idea, another photograph... - everything really. I'm an artist at heart, and inspiration hits me when it wants to and how it wants to. To be creative you have to be free.
Which photo is your most favorite one among all you’ve done?
That changes every few weeks. Right now it's a stunning portrait I took this weekend.
